Helvetia’s Inaugural Presence at SheBox 2025
We are thrilled to share the highlights from Helvetia’s inaugural presence at SheBox 2025 in Prague, CZ, May 1-3, 2025.
Helvetia’s, a women’s box lacrosse team, proudly represented Switzerland with an outstanding mix of players from various backgrounds. Our Swiss players included Larissa Pulver and Sharona Jaun (Olten), Stefanie Burger and Lara Conrad (Wettingen), Nadia Röschmann (Chur), and Tiffany McIntire (Basel). We were complemented by players with a mixture of experience from Germany, England, France, Canada, and Six Nations.
Our leadership:
- Coach: Stefan Zweifel (Basel)
- Assistant Coach: Amelie Goldberg (Heidelberg)
- Assistant Coach: Larissa Pulver (Olten)
- General Manager: Tiffany McIntire (Basel)
Leading up to the event, Helvetia’s held four box practices in Switzerland. Despite being their first international appearance, the Swiss players showcased remarkable skill and dedication, playing as if they more experience.
Despite the result, everyone had fun. The team kept their spirits high and supported each other through each game. In the first game, you could see the team grow and learn how to play together.
Several players stood out with their performances:
- Stefi and Lara had just competed in the Sixes European Championship, and we deeply appreciated their presence and passion they brought to Shebox!
- Stefi and Lara became known in the team as «vacuums» as they scooped up any groundball and were able to carry them across the field, even with 2-3 players defending them.
- Lara Conrad took a majority of the face-offs, learning how to do it just before the first game.
- Nadia played mostly attack, but in the last game with the short bench, she made a huge impact in defense. Her Lax IQ was apparent, and she played exceptionally in all the games.
- Sharona and Larissa, our youngest players at 16 years of age, were able to show their ability to handle the men’s stick and pressure without any hesitation.
- Larissa unfortunately had an injury but jumped in to coach the last two games, where her voice and passion could be heard loud and clear from the field—giving the team the real Swiss lacrosse spirit of «mitenand.»
- Sharona grew with each game, scoring goals and impressively achieving 3 goals and 1 assist in the last game on Saturday.
Reflections from the players:
“Prague 2025 with Team Switzerland was an amazing experience not only as a player but to have the opportunity to travel across the world and meet these people who share the same passion for the game was healing to my soul. Created friendships that I will forever cherish. The bench staff was such a pleasure to play for. And such a historic moment for Switzerland’s women’s box lacrosse players finally being able to represent their people and play the game they love.” – Mia Martin, Six Nations
Challenges Faced:
We had some injuries from the original roster we intended to take, which resulted in a short bench and exhausting games. Our jerseys also arrived late, but the hosts were kind enough to lend us the local Prague jerseys for the first two games. But, everyone kept their heads up and worked hard each shift to make a difference in the game.
Future Plans:
Continue holding open practices to grow the sport strategically. While the players really enjoyed playing, we have to be mindful of commitments. So for now, this will be a fun outlet where players can come and play, but we want to grow naturally into it and not overwhelm with the other programs (Sixes and field).
